New Year's Levee a Great Success
Mayor Suzanne Dodge cuts the Bicentennial cake with the help of local politicians and historic re-enactors
Mayor Suzanne Dodge cuts the Bicentennial cake with the help of local politicians and historic re-enactors
Prescott's Bicentennial Year got off to a resounding success at the Royal Canadian Legion. Over 200 local residents came out to enjoy the annual Levee and Opening Ceremonies. Town Crier Lawrence Levere did a great job reading a proclamation telling the audience about the history of the founding of the town by Colonel Edward Jessup. Legion President Steve Lear welcomed everyone to the Levee. Mayor Dodge said a few words of welcome and introduced MP Gord Brown, Warden William Thake, Augusta Reeve Mel Campbell and Edwardsburg-Cardinal Larry Dishaw to help bring in the new year. A print of the original survey map by Colonel Edward Jessup of Prescott in 1810, was presented to Edward and Gary Jessup, direct descendants of the founder. Entertainment, dancing and food including a bicentennial cake was enjoyed by all. It was a wonderful first event for 2010 with many to follow!
